Wereham Pond – Plant Donations – Plea from the Parish Council
Are you cleaning your ponds out this spring?
If you are splitting any plants up and could spare some for Wereham pond then please think before throwing anything away. Especially things like oxygenating weed.
The pond water quality for years has been awful and after seeking professional advice we found out its due to lack of plants. We will also be installing some barley straw soon to help reduce the nitrate levels.
To buy new plants would cost the village hundreds of pounds which would be added to all our council tax bills.
So why not donate some from your garden like our Chair has done this week?
Garden pond before, all overgrown and out of hand –
Garden pond after, all the plants are put back but trimmed and split up
Some are then transferred to the village pond for the ducks to enjoy!
Obviously if you think your pond is polluted or has a disease please don’t donate as this will create problems instead of helping.
Our village handyman carried out the work above (paid for privately by the chair). He’s very reasonably priced, so if you don’t fancy doing the work yourself contact the clerk for his contact details – werehampc@gmail.com
